APPLICATIONS
Rapid and sensitive measuring of magnetic susceptibility in rock exposures and hand samples or quick scanning of susceptibility of drill cores.
FEATURES:
DESCRIPTION:
The KT-6 is the state-of-the-art in Magnetic Susceptibility Meters. The field geologist will find it an indispensable tool as it allows fast, easy and accurate analysis of rock samples.
This portable, hand-held unit can be used in the field by geologists to analyse and classify rock types or core samples.
The data can be transmitted via serial channel RS-232 to a computer to immediate evaluation and graphic representation.
The KT-6 has a maximum sensitivity of 1 x 10-5 SI units - 0.8 x 10-6 cgs units. This allows the unit to accurately measure very low level susceptibility for reliable identification of sedimentary rocks and other weakly magnetised minerals. However, the system is fully auto ranging and can measure up to a maximum of 999 x 10-3SI units without operator adjustment. Thus over the entire operational range, the KT-6 delivers highly accurate and reliable data.
Most susceptibility meters use a ferrite cored coil. This restrict the "depth of penetration" to typically 1 - 3 mm. The KT-6 uses an air-cored coil giving much larger depth penetration - 90% of signal is from the first 20 mm. This means that if sample is being measured that has a rough surface, the KT-6 can be relied upon to give an accurate measurement of the rock's magnetite content. This "depth of penetration" also allows more accurate results from all rock types due to the better volume analysis that occurs with this feature.
